It’s all fun and games in college, but let’s face it: we’ll all be facing a treacherous job market after graduation. Furthermore, the US is now more than 15 TRILLION dollars in debt and it is us, the young people, who bear the burden of this debt. Yikes. This is why the 2012 election is so crucial.

I do not consider myself a Republican or a Democrat. To me, it doesn’t matter what color a presidential candidate is, how much money they have, where they’re from, or what political party they belong to. What matters is their concrete ideas and plans to better the country. I can think of dozens of reasons why Obama shouldn’t have a second term, but I’ve decided to focus on three reasons that are most relevant to college students. With November just around the corner, consider these three very important reasons why you shouldn’t give your vote to Obama.

1. The national debt has increased under Obama more than under any other president. In fact, the national debt has increased more during President Obama’s three years in office than it did during eight years of George W. Bush’s presidency. In Obama’s three years, the debt has increased a whopping $4.939 trillion. This is disgusting and affects young people more than anyone else. Now I’m no Bush fan either, but it’s ironic that many Democrats such as Nancy Pelosi condemned Bush’s spending, calling him a “total failure”. But now that Obama is the one writing out the checks, their tune has completely changed.

2. Obama’s student policies are a series of lies. When the president was on Jimmy Fallon’s show the other night, he said, “What we said is simple: now is not the time to make school more expense for our young people.” There’s only one problem with this statement- college tuition rates have risen 900% in the last 12 years and only continued to skyrocket during Obama’s presidency. In large part, this has been a result of the Obama government pushing unlimited student loans, and pumping-up federal student entitlement money – a move that colleges admit has enabled them to raise tuition some 25% in the last 3 years. The average American undergraduate student is $30,000 in debt plus interest when they graduate. Ouch.

3. The job market sucks and has gotten worse during Obama’s presidency. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, for every five college graduates in America there is currently only one job. I certainly don’t fancy those odds. Because of the bleak job market, a whopping 85% of college graduates end up moving back into their parents’ home. But hey, on the bight side you’ll get mom’s home-cooked meals for dinner every night!

I know that many college students are swept off their feet by Obama’s smooth talk and inspiring speeches, but we must remember to judge him on his record. Has your life improved since he took office in 2009? Who will you be voting for in November?
